Art Class - "no brainer " LOL!

Review by mommylifestyle (Posted on 12/9/14)

My thoughts are a no brainer! I absolutely LOVE See the Light Art Class DVD’s and am planning to go through the entire series with her up through Art Projects for the next year. I love the ease and flexibility of it all and Mrs. Pat is an excellent teacher! I have to admit that I am a little partial to this curriculum especially with all the scripture references that is included with each lesson. Not only does it teach my child art and a love for it…but it also teaches my daughter to see the beauty of Yahweh in everything from an artistic perspective.
Basic Teaching, Great for Beginners

Review by oneneedfulthing (Posted on 7/23/13)

I am not an artist. My stick figures usually look like aliens from outer space.
I really enjoyed viewing Art Class Volume 1. In this volume Pat goes through the basics of drawing including supplies needed. The teaching is very basic and great for beginners. My children all enjoyed watching the video along with me and have enjoyed trying the drawing techniques from this video, even though their father is a professional artist.
While I don’t feel I can draw (especially being married to an professional artist!) watching this video made me want to work at learning to draw. I also really enjoyed the bonus session on chalk drawing, as I have always been intrigued watching people use chalks.
I really appreciated the many ways Pat draws in teaching from God’s Word as she is teaching art. It was a great blessing that the children were able to see the connection between God’s Word and art!
I highly recommend Art Class Volume 1 for any family (whether home schooled or not)!
On Board with SEE THE LIGHT

Review by ourabundantblessings (Posted on 7/23/13)

As a homeschooler, I teach my children all of their subjects. English, Math, History, Geography, you name it, I teach it.
Except art (well, and music!)
We’ve tried other art programs in the past. We didn’t stick with any of them. They either moved too quickly to really “teach”, were boring, had obnoxious teachers on the video, or were too pricey.
When I was offered the opportunity to review See The Light’s Art Class program, I was a bit hesitant at first. I had Natalie and Mary look at the video trailer on the website first. Then we saw that they offer a sample lesson.
We liked what we saw. I then looked up the supply list to be sure this was something we could afford to really “do”.
The list is very affordable, so we jumped on board the review wagon!
We have not completed all of the lessons, because we are at the end of our school year. I’m not sure if we’ll complete some lessons over the summer or wait and add them to our school year that will begin in August. We’re just finishing up this school year, so our first thought is to wait until next school year to do anything “school-y”. But, really, these lessons are just fun. They don’t seem like work or really “learning” at all.
The instructor, Pat Knepley, is very personable and easy to follow. She explains everything without “dumbing it down”. She’s even still interesting to watch after watching a lesson a couple of times. (you know how some video lessons just really bore you after once or twice?!)
There is a total of 9 DVDs in this series, with 4 lessons each. This makes a total of 36 lessons, which is perfect for a school year! We will be buying the rest of this series. Yes, I think it’s that good!
Least equipped to teach art

Review by Onfaithandcoffee (Posted on 7/21/13)

I am the LEAST equipped person to teach art in our homeschool. I knew I could research and teach vocabulary and techniques, but when push comes to shove if I have to actually draw I am not a good example.
I am not an artist. The majority of my doodles consist of hearts, flowers, stars and the occasional Mickey Mouse (that I learned to draw from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – ha!)
I had seen some reviews of See the Light and was AMAZED by the beautiful works of art that students produced after learning from one of See the Light’s Master Artist teachers!
Billy was really starting to show an interest in drawing and I wanted to encourage and develop that delight directed experience.I started by watching one of the Free Videos Available on the See the Light web site. I was hooked instantly. The lessons were engaging (I had to find a pencil so I could follow along!), not long (which I thought would be important so Billy didn’t lose focus/interest) and, best of all, they approached art from a CHRISTIAN perspective! Master Artist Pat Kneply, the teacher in the Art Class DVDs talked about creativity and how God is the master creator and gave us the ability to be creative!

Well, I was in. I wasn’t sure what Billy would think, though. When the Art Class DVD arrived, he couldn’t wait to try it out!
He insisted on watching all 4 lessons on the DVD in a row (I guess I didn’t have to worry about the length of the lessons after all!). Each time we’ve watched it since then – and we have watched it a LOT! – he has done the same thing.

Billy is the kind of kid who, once he sees how something is done, likes to try it his own way. He found all sorts of items from around the house to draw and even had fun trying to copy some of the pictures from the insert showcasing the other DVD lessons! In the DVD the Master Artist, Pat, is doing a drawing of an apple, but, Billy decided he would rather do a contour drawing of his Epic Mickey 2 case instead.
It’s obvious that Art Class has inspired Billy and made him enjoy drawing even more! I can’t wait to see how he grows with the next set of lessons!
Loved this DVD!

Great Resource

Review by HeavenScent (Posted on 11/25/12)

If you have any kids who would like to learn to draw, this is a great resource. I love the step by step clear instructions. It's easy enough for young children, but detailed enough for older. I use the lessons with all my kids!
And - most of all - I love that all of the art lessons are faith-based!
Teaching Art = Heebie-Jeebies

Review by Southern Belle (Posted on 11/22/12)

Of all the subjects that give homeschooling moms the heebie-jeebies, art seems to top the list. Not anymore. Let Pat Knepley do it for you.
In the past few weeks, I've put on the DVD, let her do the work, and - I can already see a difference in the way my children approach a blank sheet of paper.
Another big plus : Pat's lessons are God honoring, and short enough to be suitable for all ages. We have all done the classes together - even me !!! Turns out, I'm pretty good at contour drawing. Maybe I'll be an artist someday :)
Can't believe I want to buy these lessons

Review by Art mom (Posted on 1/22/12)

I checked out this DVD, and was shocked! I'm an art teacher, and I want to get the rest of these DVD lessons. That's a big deal for me - an art teacher - to want to buy art lessons!
Thorough Lessons

Review by Charter School Mom of 2 (Posted on 1/22/12)

What I like is that these art lessons are very thorough. I like how each detail is explained, making art accessible to any level of artist (even me ) !
We're hooked!

Review by Lea H (Posted on 12/13/11)

This is a big hit in our house! We are already addicted and I know we'll be buying the whole series.

Pat does a wonderful job of explaining each step in detail, in an engaging manner, which is fun and non-intimidating. I love how Pat weaves truths of God and His word into the lesson.

For example, in Lesson 1: Tools of the Trade, she starts off declaring that God is the Master Creator who has given us all the ability to create. Pat starts the lesson by sharing that a #2 pencil and paper are the basic tools to create art. She shows you the different lines a pencil can make - sweeping, jagged, soft, thick - and tells us that we can't create something from nothing, but God did create something from nothing - and reads it straight out of her Bible.

My 7yo daughter and 3yo son LOVE See the Light! This has helped my 3yo to write his letters and draw the most simplest things. Truly for all ages, it holds the attention of both my kids. - in fact I have been known to participate at well :)
Hmmmm

Review by freedom (Posted on 11/6/11)

I watched the first three lesson for FREE on -line, then ordered this, which contains the first three lessons + 2 others - lesson # 4 and a bonus chalk art lesson with Gloria Kohlmann.
Kids love doing art and really like Pat K's personality, but - it would have been smarter to have just bought the whole set after viewing the first 3 on-line.
My advice? Watch the first 3 FREE on-line. If you like 'em, buy the set, and don't buy them individually.
OK to have art

Review by okart (Posted on 11/5/11)

I used to think - art lessons for 4 kids? Forget about it. No time, no money, and I can't do it.
I got this frist DVD from a friend. She said it's great. I thought I'd try it. She was right.
Kids are learning and like it.
Now I guess I have to get the set. Kids want to keep going.
Fab Freebie

Review by xxoo (Posted on 11/5/11)

I got this for FREE. A friend tweeted me. She'd seen an ad. My 4 kids are lovin' the lessons with their special art teacher.
I'm going to splurge and get the entire set.
Back to doin' laundry while they learn to draw.
