You CAN Teach Art in Your Homeschool

Review by Abundant Life (Posted on 7/21/13)

Have you ever wished that you could teach art in your homeschool but found that you either didn’t have the time or the skills to follow through? Me too! Until we discovered See the Light Art Class and Art Project DVDs.
I have always appreciated fine art but never had the skills myself to produce any, let alone teach the skill to my kids. That all joyfully changed with See the Light. The Art Project DVDs take all of the planning and guesswork out of teaching art in your homeschool
See the Light Art Projects are 4-lesson DVDs that contain step-by-step instruction on how to create wonderful works of art in various styles of famous artists. Our family worked through the Sunflower Art Project where we created an oil pastel in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
Who Can Benefit From See the Light Art Project DVDs
The DVDs are geared for kids ages 10+ but our enthusiastic, artistic 9 year-old thoroughly enjoyed the class as well. Our 13 year old did it also.
Moms will love that each Art Project DVD comes with a complete list of materials needed to complete the project, making preparation quick and easy. Older students will appreciate each project’s focus on Art History, Art Elements and Art Principles with Biblical themes woven into every lesson.
Pat weaves stories of the life of the artist into the lessons making biblical lessons where appropriate. This bit of Art History in light of a Biblical worldview was a highlight of the program.
Worthy of Framing

Review by Hopehomeschoolconsulting (Posted on 7/21/13)

What do you get when you combine a DVD, Pat Knepley, oil pastels, Vincent Van Gogh, history, and a Bible? Sunflowers Art Project!
This fun art class contains four lessons and guides a student toward producing a work of art worthy of framing.
There is so much to learn about Van Gogh's life.He was a missionary at one point. During that time, he would create a drawing and exchange it for food.
His famous "Starry Night" sold for $39,000,000. Yet Van Gogh only sold one painting during his liftetime.
My daughter learned the layering effect Pat K. taught. It was fascinating to see the changes that occurred by adding a small amount of color to a petal when it aleady looks nice. The added color gives the drawing more definition.
My daughter showed her completed project to her grandmother who is an accomplished artist. Grandma was quite impressed and wanted to know more about SEE THE LIGHT:)
Inspired my daughter to go to school for art

We are truly a See The Light family. I am so thankful for your company. Especially after doing your Van Gogh DVD, my daughter has finally decided to go to school for art. We will be building up her portfolio and we plan on using your Art Project DVD's as part of the portfolio. Thank you for bringing the love of art to our homeschooling!
Your children will LOVE this project and so will you when their masterpieces are completed and you are hanging their own Sunflower project on the wall.

The "Sunflowers" DVD contain 4 educational and inspirational lessons with the amazing Pat Knepley. Each lesson explores the life of Van Gogh while gently guiding the student step by step through the process of creating their own sunflower art in the style of Dutch artist, Vincent Van Gogh.

To begin our project we needed to purchase a few supplies including a 11x14" piece of charcoal or pastel paper.

Since I had 4 children excited about the project I bought two large sheets (one grey and one tan) then cut them down to size. Super affordable.

We also needed . . .
*a set of oil pastels (at least 24). I bought a set of 50 at Hobby *Lobby for only $9.99.
*paper towels
*several artificial sunflowers. This is the most expensive of *the materials needed.
*and baby wipes for easy clean up.

Through the lessons, children will learn so much about Van Gogh, not jut as an artist, but as a man. I definitely learned along the way too. For one, I never knew that Van Gogh aspired to be a Pastor. He actually went to seminary but never passed the test.

Along with guiding children on their artwork, sharing prints of Van Gogh's work and imparting thorough historic knowledge of the artist, Pat Knepley also references the Bible, quoting scriptures and addressing spiritual concepts along the way.

I never knew Van Gogh's life could be a platform for such relevant topics like handling disappointment and trusting God's plan and purpose for your life.

The tone of each lesson is friendly and nicely paced.

Your children will LOVE this project and so will you when their masterpieces are completed and you are hanging their own Sunflower project on the wall.
